1973 Porsche Carrera 2.7 RS on eBay

Currently bidding at over $192k! Considered by many to be the best 911 of all time, there is no doubt the Carrera 2.7 RS is the business. Many of it’s performance numbers still show well 30 years later.

Sports Car Market recent valuation of 911 RS models.

I’m off to buy my Powerball ticket. Don’t get too close to my next car ;)

Update: Two days remain and the current bid is just over $200k - reserve not met! The auction comments reveal that this is a car from the Otis Chandler collection. Otis Chandler was the publisher of the LA Times from 1960-1980, and apparently had quite the collection of cars which was recently auctioned off (autoblog link). According to the auction house, this 911 2.7 RS Sold for $181.5k. The comments section of the eBay auction clearly demonstrate that the current owner knows it’s value and will not let it go cheap.

1974 BMW 2002 Turbo For Sale in the U.S.

1974 BMW 2002 Turbo For Sale

1974 BMW 2002 Turbo on Roadfly

With a price tag of $45k, this is apparently the real deal! I realize that these aren’t a dime a dozen, but I didn’t think prices had climed this high.

My wife spotted me making this post and after seeing the pic remarked, “Now that’s what you should get!” Then I told her how much. She followed, “When OSU gives you your $40k bonus, you can get it.” (Higher education joke. Translation: When Hell freezes over!)

But if that price tag had your eyes watering, wait until you see my next post…

This deal really does look too good to be true at $11750, but if I lived anywhere near San Jose, I’d definitely be stopping by to take a look. Despite the fact that this car is obviously intended for weekend driving events, if the engine rebuild is in fact reputable, that bill would easily cross the $8k line and perhaps as high as $10k depending on upgrades and options. As I consider that the cost of the car is roughly what it would cost to have an engine rebuilt, you have to wonder… Maybe the paint job is a 10ft quality job. Or maybe the interior is even rattier than it looks in the picture. Salvage title maybe?

Someone in LA go give this car a look, the curiosity is killing me!

1988 Toyota Celica ST165 AllTrac GT4 For Sale

Here’s a chance to own some serious-for-its-day, homologated race special goodness — on the cheap! And check out the specs: 190hp, 7 second 0-60, full time all wheel drive, and a 2 liter turbo!

With a rebuilt motor and recent maintenance, $3700 is a steal! Granted, these cars have not really made turn towards appreciation, but there is a strong Japanese aftermarket right now, so support should be very good for this car. And it’s right in our back yard in Grants Pass, Oregon.

Here are some links that I turned up with a simple google search:

ST165 Buyer’s Guide
AllTrac Specifications

And a youtube video on the history of the Celica in rallying. The ST165 GT-Four is featured first.

EESCC Auto-x April 07: Dusting off the Track Rabbit

Rabbit Racer posing in the grid

I met up with Ed and Paul for the Emerald Empire Sports Car Club Autocross on Sunday. What a fantastic day! No rain and an afternoon of mid 60’s and sunshine — who could ask for more?!

This was Ed and Paul’s first time autocrossing, and only my 3rd time. No matter though as the EESCC club is one of the friendliest and easy going groups involved in amateur motorsports. We had a great time and I’ll post the official times as soon as they’re posted on the EESCC site.

In the meantime, here’s some pics and vids:

Ed Rockin the MKV with the Maybachs:

Me getting ready to hit the start line:

And here are the videos (spectacular quality aren’t they?!)

Paul on track, parts 1 and 2:

One of my full laps. The car in front of me in the vid went on to post the fastest time of the day, which I think was around 36 seconds. My best was 41 seconds. Doesn’t sound like a big difference, but it’s an eternity on an autocross course:

And two parts for Ed too:

But the story of the day is that we nearly didn’t make it. Not only did Ed and Paul have a rather late night that only yielded 2 hours of sleep (ahem!!), when we arrived at the shop to retrieve the Rabbit, there was a trailer parked right in front of the bay doors!

The delima -- car stuck in the garage

It’s hard to tell from the pics, but there was no room to 3 point the car around to back her out of the narrow space that was available. So we put our hangover heads together and came up with a perfect solution: Jack up the rear axle and pivot the car into position:

getting-out-2

I still can’t believe it worked!

The final push out of the garage
Finally Out of the bay!

And of course no post about the track rabbit is complete without another major thanks to Paul who has built us a bullet-proof car to goof around in! Another day of trouble-free racing!

As you may have noticed, this is the shop my buddy Paul works for. Looks like a fantastic low mileage example. Good luck with the sale guys!

Only 87k original miles! BringATrailer.com figures she’ll fetch over $20k. Not sure that I’d pick this over a pristine e30 M3, but no question, there are few left in this condition.

Two Race-bred Miatas for Sale in Portland

tjrubley | Automotive, Online Classifieds Car Show | Wednesday, April 18th, 2007 | del.icio.us

This ad on craigslist for two Miatas caught my attention today:

Spec Miata for Sale
Race-bred Miata for Sale

The orange one is built for the very successful SCCA Spec Miata class. Here’s two videos of it in action at PIR.

In-car:

Outside the car, turn 12 at PIR:

The other car is built with a left over competition enduro motor that has been slightly toned down for a street application. It still sports the sunbelt cams, remapped engine management, and numerous internal engine modifications to give the car a killer 8300rpm redline! The car itself has been stripped of numerous street comforts to trim the weight down to 2000lbs and runs lightweight rims as well. Curiously, it runs on street suspension. I suspect a coilover setup was probably removed for another project and stock suspension returned to the car — no one would build a car like this and then run it on stock suspension!

The accompanying video for this modified red miata:

The Spec Miata for sale is asking $11,300 and the street car is for sale at $7200 — and the ad states that if the cars are purchased together, a special discount will apply.

Hmmm, race car for the street, or real racecar… Happy day dreaming!

1969 BMW 2800 For Sale: Original Owner!

tjrubley | Automotive, Online Classifieds Car Show | Wednesday, April 18th, 2007 | del.icio.us

This BMW 2800 is being sold on behalf of it’s 90 year old, original owner. Car has 166k miles but has been dealer serviced nearly it’s whole life. The auction description doesn’t reveal a restoration, and this looks to be a true survivor.

While the 2800 isn’t as desirable as the BMW 3.0 or 2002 models, there simply can’t be many other survivors like it.

1993 BMW E34 M5 For Sale: Drool Factory

tjrubley | Automotive, Online Classifieds Car Show | Tuesday, April 17th, 2007 | del.icio.us

Arguably the last of the true, hand-built, factory M cars, the e34 M5 is the real thing. And this one only has 21k original miles and looks even better than that.

UPDATE 11.29.07: Down to $29k.

UPDATE 2.12.08: Down to $28750 and updated link to new ad.

1993 BMW e34 M5 For Sale on Roadfly

$33.5k sounds a bit lofty to me. I would expect actual sale price to be mid to high 20’s considering I haven’t seen many of these with this kind of mileage. Most have been loved and driven rather than loved and kept in storage. Still, someone is going to get a great original.
