eBay auction for 10k mile BMW e30 M3
This is by far the lowest mileage I’ve seen for one of these in a year of looking. And from the looks of the bidding, this car should end up very close to $30k. Happy Bidding!

1986 Mercedes-Benz 190 2.3-16 on Autotrader.com
This particular example has high mileage at over 100k, but this isn’t unusual for a used Mercedes. Many are proudly driven and maintained to high standards. This car would appear to be one of them, which was originally special ordered in Germany. Also has euro-spec lamps and what appear to be Evolution (or aftermarket copies) rims.
This post on the Vortex asking for help looking for a 190 2.3-16 inspired me to take a peek myself. A little bit of research doesn’t yield many examples, and most are definitely not of this quality. $16.8k may well be a bit high, but could be reasonable for what may be the nicest example for sale right now. Although when compared to what e30 M3 are fetching, maybe not out of line at all. But I’ll keep looking this week for a nicer one and include what I can find.
Quick Facts
Here’s some quick facts on the legendary Mercedes 190 2.3-16 “Costworth” from Wikipedia:
- Cosworth racing was charged with tuning this motorsports motor, which is widely considered the centerpiece of the car. Modifications included a brand new cylinder head, 16 valves instead of 8, and constructed from lightweight alloy.
- The 2.3-16 was originally developed for rallying, but turbo Audi Quattro’s made them uncompetitive. The 2.3-16’s motorsports intentions were turned to DTM racing where it did battle with the e30 M3.
- Standard features included a dog-leg style transmission (european model), standard limited slip differential, and special body cladding that reduced drag.

Starting this week, I’m going to begin posting classifieds based on a unique theme each week — in addition to the regular killer finds I post of course! My goal is to post at least 4 themed examples each week, and past themes will be listed on a new page.

This week I’m featuring modern-classic Mercedes models like the 190 2.3-16, 500e/e500, C36/C43, SL’s, and old school sedans.
If you have an idea for theme week, email me!

Ten years ago if you told me that a nice 914-6 would list for $24k, I would’ve thought you were crazy. But considering what’s happened with early 911 models (pre 73) recently, $24k sounds like a solid deal for a well performing car that doesn’t suffer from terrible U.S. regulations like huge bumpers, catalytic converters, or smog pumps.
This example features a warmed over 2.2L motor that should provide very strong performance indeed. And carb’d too…
This car is haunting me without a doubt, even though it’s totally irresponsible for me to own a car of this vintage, condition and price. But considering my high school notebook was littered with sketches of slammed 914’s, it’s amazing I haven’t called this guy with a cash offer already lol!

Unfortunately I found this one after the auction had already ended. Someone scored a really nice deal on what appears to be a solid, low mile, and very rare car (in America anyway).

I know what you’re thinking, apples and oranges. But on paper some interesting similarities emerge:
0-60
Elise: 4.7
M3: 4.7
1/4 mile
Elise: 13.4
M3: 13.3
Power to Weight:
Elise: 1950lbs / 190hp = 10.2
M3: 3415lbs / 343hp = 9.95

Yes, they’re both totally different cars. But it’s getting hard to deny that the M3 wears many hats, very well. And with the e92 M3 right around the corner, more and more sub $30k e46 M3’s have been showing up on eBay recently.

1970 Porsche 911S on the Samba for $23,000

Now for the bad news:
- Not the original color
- Has flared fenders installed
- Doesn’t note any restoration or rebuild
But, you’d be hard pressed to find an early S for less money. And the car does look really sharp.

Here’s an ad on Ben’s Rally Classifieds for a street legal EVO 3! Claims to be registered, titled and insured too. $18k sounds in the ballpark for the right buyer considering it’s rarity in the U.S.
